Position Overview
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for collaborating with functional leadership to align business strategies with effective HR and organizational plans. This role focuses on employee relations, career development, training, and compensation management, providing direct support and guidance.
Primary Responsibilities
- Offer daily HR support and advice on employee relations, talent management, compensation, policy interpretation, and employee growth for the assigned location.
- Serve as the initial HR resource for managers and staff, working collaboratively to develop and apply effective solutions.
- Partner with managers and teams to evaluate needs and create plans that enhance employee engagement and drive overall organizational success.
- Manage employee relations issues efficiently, performing thorough and impartial investigations as necessary.
- Lead the implementation of HR programs, assess their effectiveness, identify improvement opportunities, and provide relevant training to enhance outcomes.
- Educate management on strategies encompassing talent management, succession planning, compensation, and organizational policies.
- Work with leadership to foster employee development initiatives, including career planning, mentoring, and skill enhancement programs.
- Assess training requirements and facilitate programs such as supervisory training, onboarding, and skills development.
- Provide direction and counsel on HR-related matters to management and employees.
- Ensure consistent compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, supporting all regional location representatives.
- Conduct research and analysis on HR assignments and other special projects as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven expertise in human resources management, including plan development and strategy execution.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical thinking abilities.
- Effective communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Comprehensive understanding of federal and state labor laws and business best practices.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to follow through on tasks diligently.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills for internal and external interactions.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong project management capabilities.
- Experience in unionized environments is required.
- Advanced computer skills including HRIS systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Exceptional facilitation and conflict resolution expertise.
- Creative problem solving, analytical skills, and the ability to influence positively.
- Maintains high ethical standards concerning confidentiality and internal customer service.
- Capable of managing sensitive situations in fast-paced settings balancing employee and management needs effectively.
- Results-oriented approach with the ability to build and sustain organizational credibility.
Experience and Education
Candidates should have 7 to 10 years of professional HR experience, including a minimum of 5 years as a Business Partner supporting multiple teams and locations. A bachelor’s degree is required. Possession of a PHR or SPHR certification is preferred.
Travel
This position requires travel approximately 30-35% of the time.
