Role overview
This part-time Dental Assistant position is based in Auckland and supports the delivery of dental care for people with complex needs. The role involves working chairside with dentists, helping maintain a safe clinical environment, and contributing to a respectful, culturally aware, and trauma-informed patient experience.
As part of Auckland City Mission – Te Tāpui Atawhai, you will be supported with mentoring and on-the-job development. The organisation values learning, growth, and meaningful work grounded in community values.
Key duties
- Assist dentists during appointments and provide chairside clinical support.
- Help create and maintain a safe, respectful, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed dental care experience.
- Complete dental charting and clinical records as instructed by the dentist.
- Set up treatment rooms, equipment, instruments, materials, and patient files before clinic sessions.
- Clean, sterilise, and reprocess instruments and other equipment according to clinic procedures.

- Prior experience as a Dental Assistant in a busy, fast-moving setting.
- Demonstrated commitment in practice to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Mission’s values of Manaakitanga, Atawhai, Rangapū, and Mana Tika/Mana Ōrite.
- Strong ability to work cooperatively within a wider health services team.
- Solid knowledge of infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
- Ability to anticipate the needs of both clinician and patient to support smooth clinic flow.
