Role overview

Safeway Canmore is hiring a deli clerk to support the HMR/deli area on a part-time or full-time basis. The role centers on keeping shelves stocked, preparing fresh ready-to-eat food, and serving customers with a high level of care and attention.

You will help prepare hot meals and deli items such as sandwiches, flatbreads, pizzas, shaved and sliced meats, cheeses, and party platters. The position also involves product rotation, freshness checks, and delivering a consistently positive customer experience.

Key duties

• Follow company procedures, standards, and policies in all work situations.
• Welcome customers in a courteous, approachable manner.
• Provide strong customer service aligned with store programs and expectations.
• Process payments through cash, cheque, credit card, gift card, and debit transactions.
• Offer samples to customers when appropriate.
• Prepare hot and cold foods, including sandwiches, chicken, salads, soups, and specialty trays.
• Operate commercial equipment such as slicers, fryers, and ovens.
• Write product orders as needed.
• Receive stock and ensure proper rotation of products.
• Fill and maintain product display cases and showcases.

Experience and job fit

No prior experience is required for this position, as training will be provided.

• Evening and weekend availability is strongly preferred.
• Must be available for scheduling at any time on Sundays in Alberta.

Physical demands

• Frequent standing, reaching, and gripping.
• Regular use of a computer and point-of-sale system.
• Frequent bending, walking, twisting, pushing, and pulling.
• Constant lifting of items up to 10 lb.
• Occasional lifting of items up to 50 lb, including lifts from waist, shoulder, and low levels.
• Occasional exposure to heat and cooking exhaust.
