Database Administrator

Role Overview

This position involves overseeing the Oracle, MS SQL, and other database platforms throughout Telecel Ghana. The incumbent is tasked with providing resource support for testing and deploying new components and delivering comprehensive Level 1, 2, and 3 technical support across the database environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Offer expert technical guidance and decision-making for database system setups, including servers, local services, data center environments, and database configurations to satisfy Telecel's daily IT DBA requirements.
• Consult on requirements, specifications, design, development, and integration of complex systems and database management projects ensuring alignment with project goals.
• Prepare business case justifications and cost-benefit analyses for IT expenditures and initiatives related to database management.
• Handle the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrades, and support for all IT database systems.
• Investigate and resolve escalated database issues, ensuring adequate technical and personnel resources are assigned to solutions.
• Review and guide tests, integrations, maintenance, and solutions performed by less experienced staff on major projects to ensure accuracy and appropriateness.
• Maintain and implement standards, principles, and directions related to distributed database environments that meet both user and company requirements.
• Oversee scheduled maintenance and upgrades of the database environments.
• Collaborate with primary Telecel vendors to understand their technology roadmaps and integrate this insight into long-range planning alongside infrastructure, architecture, strategy heads, and the CIO.
• Assist with backup and restoration procedures of system databases.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or a closely related discipline preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience in database administration, with a minimum of 2 years in a technical management role.
• Proficient with MS SQL and Oracle support for 2 to 3 years.
• Experience with database clustering spanning 2 to 3 years.
• Familiarity with Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) for 2 to 3 years.
• Broad understanding of IT systems and technologies.
