Role Overview
They are seeking a business-focused data scientist to maximize the value of their data assets, accelerate growth, and influence the product strategy. This individual will work in close partnership with leadership, product, and marketing teams to evaluate initiatives, define crucial metrics, provide insights that steer product decisions, and foster a data-driven culture. The role balances product analytics, decision science, and data governance, contributing to critical business insights and building frameworks that enhance data accessibility and actionability throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide critical data decisions across various departments.
- Analyze large, intricate datasets to extract meaningful insights that inform actions.
- Track performance trends and perform root-cause analyses.
- Collaborate with product teams to set benchmarks for new features and evaluate overall product performance.
- Offer data-backed advice and conduct experiments supporting product development, user engagement, and company expansion.
- Manage and update the data dictionary, promoting widespread data literacy.
- Develop, enhance, and maintain data pipelines and foundational data architecture.
- Oversee the accuracy, documentation, and usability of the Amplitude taxonomy.
- Identify opportunities to advance data infrastructure, processes, and analytical tools.
- Provide regular progress reports and insights to keep the company aligned with strategic objectives.
Candidate Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
- Between 3 to 5 years of professional experience in data science or related roles.
- Minimum of 2 years experience at a high-growth startup; consumer-focused industry experience is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python; knowledge of Javascript is a bonus.
- Experience with data tools such as Amplitude, DBT, and Hex.
- Competence in designing and analyzing A/B tests, along with solid grounding in statistical methodologies.
- Strong ability to leverage data for business decisions, emphasizing application of insights beyond just number interpretation.
- Excellent communication skills enabling clear explanation of complex data insights to non-technical audiences.
- Comfort with working amidst uncertainty, with a history of proactive initiative-taking, independent work, and thriving in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
