Job description

About the Role

Autograph, based at Rivington Place in Shoreditch, London, is seeking an experienced curator to join their team. This position supports the organisation's specialist photographic collection and contemporary exhibition program, which highlights photographic practices and engages audiences across the UK and internationally. The role is offered initially as a fixed-term contract of three years with the possibility of extension depending on resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute various segments of Autograph's artistic initiatives including exhibitions, publications, commissions, residencies, collection exhibitions, and digital presentations.
  • Explore and develop partnership opportunities with local, national, and international institutions leveraging Autograph’s photography collection.
  • Support achieving Autograph’s strategic goals by engaging key stakeholders, aiding development efforts, and contributing to income generation.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate has prior curatorial experience and aims to progress into greater organisational leadership within a mid-sized visual arts institution. Candidates should align closely with Autograph’s mission and values, possess broad knowledge of contemporary commissioning and exhibition methodologies, and show strong interest in photographic curation.

Excellent communication skills, strategic planning expertise, and superior project management capabilities are essential. Comfortable collaboration with diverse artists, partners, and interest groups is expected. This full-time post offers some flexibility for remote work arrangements subject to negotiation.

Professional Development & Inclusion

Autograph supports ongoing professional growth through coaching, peer networking, and specialized training as needed, including collection care education. There is also potential eligibility for participation in a three-year fellowship program for curators from global majority backgrounds, endorsed by Art Fund’s Empowering Curators initiative.

Diversity Commitment

Applicants who identify as Global Majority—individuals who are Black, Asian, mixed race, or ethnic minorities underrepresented in curatorial roles—are particularly encouraged to apply. This group collectively accounts for over 80% of the world’s population.

Application Deadline

Applicants must submit their materials by 12pm BST on Monday, 29 September 2025.
