About the Role

Auckland Council is expanding its Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) team, offering permanent full-time positions for Contractor Safety Specialists based in Auckland CBD. These hybrid roles involve travel across the region to support and enhance contractor safety management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementing and embedding the Contractor Safety Management Framework throughout Auckland Council.
  • Conduct monitoring and assurance for contractor safety, including site inspections, reviewing safety data, following up on findings, and contributing to verification programmes.
  • Provide practical guidance to internal teams on contractor safety requirements, overlapping Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) duties, and assurance activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal departments and contractors to ensure effective safety collaboration.
  • Oversee recording and monitoring of contractor safety activities such as inspections, reporting, incident management, and performance tracking.
  • Drive continuous improvements in contractor safety processes, tools, guidance materials, and reporting mechanisms.

Candidate Profile

We seek candidates with a Level 4 (or equivalent) qualification in occupational health and safety and a minimum of four years recent experience in contractor safety management, risk assessment, monitoring, or assurance. Candidates should possess strong knowledge of HSW legislation and PCBU duties, excellent communication and relationship management skills, and a demonstrated ability to support reporting and improvement initiatives. Experience in infrastructure, construction, maintenance, public sector, or contractor-intensive environments is highly desirable. Ongoing professional development is expected.

Additional Information

Remuneration ranges between $102,595 and $108,630 annually, depending on experience and skill levels. Applications close at midnight on Monday 17th August.
