Role Overview

This position is for a part-time Construction Material Testing Engineer based on-site within the Greater Melbourne Area. The engineer will conduct both field and laboratory evaluations of construction materials including soil, aggregates, and concrete to verify conformity with applicable standards and project specifications. Daily responsibilities include preparing and implementing testing procedures, accurately recording and analyzing test results, and compiling clear reports. The role requires coordinating with site supervisors, project engineers, and internal teams to communicate findings that inform construction decisions. Additional duties involve adhering to safety guidelines, maintaining testing equipment, and supporting continual enhancement of testing methodologies.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Solid experience in test engineering with ability to plan and coordinate construction material testing programs.
• Practical expertise performing tests in both field and laboratory settings for soil, aggregates, and concrete.
• Competence in designing, documenting, and managing test cases and procedures that comply with relevant standards and project directives.
• Knowledge and application of general and functional testing to ensure accuracy and dependability of material assessments.
• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related fields, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Familiarity with Australian standards and NATA accreditation requirements related to construction material testing.
• High attention to detail in data collection and reporting, with ability to convey results clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality control, and ethical practices within both site and laboratory environments.
• Valid driver's license and availability to travel to project locations throughout the Greater Melbourne Area.
