Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Principal or designated supervisor, the Preparation Time Specialist is responsible for managing classes or overseeing students during teachers' preparation times. This role involves preparing lesson plans and necessary instructional materials, along with delivering lessons in specialized areas such as music, art, science, computer operations, media center use, physical education, languages, and health.

Work Schedule and Compensation

This is a classified position with working hours set at 3.5 hours per day from Monday through Thursday, totaling 178 workdays annually. Compensation is set at $19.98 per hour according to the 2026-27 Support Salary Table for Salary Grade 6. Advancements include a minimum 5% salary increase upon promotion.

Educational and Professional Qualifications

• Completion of high school or equivalent is required.
• Formal training or education in the specialty area is preferred.
• For Title I schools, candidates must later fulfill one of the following: two years (48 semester hours) of full-time higher education, an associate's degree, or pass a state-approved Para-Professional Test.

Skills and Experience

• Understanding of the content related to the assigned subjects.
• Strong interpersonal abilities for effective communication with students, teaching staff, and other school personnel.
• Capability to instruct effectively in the designated subjects.
• Experience working with children is desirable, although not mandatory.
