About Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki
Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki is a leading cultural institution in New Zealand, committed to enriching communities through art and ideas. Joining our team means engaging with a passionate group of art enthusiasts, including curators, artists, and visitors.
Role Overview
We seek enthusiastic and approachable individuals to join us as Casual Gallery Assistants starting mid-September 2026. This role offers the chance to expand your art knowledge while utilizing your customer service skills in a dynamic environment with flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and assist visitors in exploring the gallery
- Provide information about exhibitions and artworks after training
- Ensure the care and maintenance of artworks and gallery spaces
- Support special events and gallery activities
Candidate Profile
Applicants should have a proven track record of excellent customer service and embody manaakitanga (hospitality). We value genuine passion for art and culture, strong communication abilities, a cooperative team spirit, and adaptability to varied schedules, especially during the summer season. Availability for at least two days per month is required, with the gallery open daily except Christmas Day.

Working at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki provides a unique environment for learning and professional growth, including behind-the-scenes exposure to exhibitions and curation. The role is paid at the living wage rate of $29.90 per hour plus holiday pay.
