Role Summary

As a Cashier at Safeway, you'll be the first point of contact for customers, creating positive impressions that foster loyalty. The position involves fast, accurate, and friendly checkout service. Comprehensive training is provided to ensure success in this role.

Primary Responsibilities

• Adhere to all company policies and standards consistently.
• Welcome customers warmly and professionally.
• Deliver exceptional customer service aligned with Safeway’s programs.
• Handle various payment methods at the cash register including cash, checks, credit and gift cards, and debit cards.
• Package merchandise and assist customers with bags or carts.
• Balance and reconcile cash drawer accurately at shift end.
• Keep checkout areas clean and organized.
• Stock products in the checkout area as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

• No prior experience required; full training available.
• Quick learner able to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Self-motivated and works well within a team.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Commits to safe and responsible work practices.
• Available to work flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends.
• For those in Alberta, availability to work any Sunday is required.

Physical Demands

• Continuous lifting up to 10 pounds.
• Standing for long durations throughout shifts.
• Regular use of computers and point-of-sale systems.
• Frequent bending and twisting motions.
• Occasional lifting or carrying between 10 to 40 pounds at various heights.
• Intermittent walking, squatting, pushing, or pulling activities.
