Position Overview
The Cashier role at Ujjivan Small Finance Bank is a full-time position within the Branch Banking department based at the branch location. The role reports directly to the Branch Operation Officer.
Role Purpose
This position involves managing all cash-related transactions and operations at the branch in compliance with internal and external banking protocols. The incumbent is responsible for accurate record entries in relevant registers or online systems and for performing daily reconciliation closing activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth branch operations by accurately processing cash transactions and maintaining accounts.
- Oversee the cash handling function at the branch, including receipt and processing of cheques, drafts, dividend warrants, and pay orders within authorized limits, and issuing receipt acknowledgements.
- Manage cash disbursement for withdrawals and collect deposits via cash challans.
- Handle repayment collection as per EMI schedules with appropriate system entries.
- Maintain registers such as inward/outward, petty cash, and assets; coordinate with Regional Head Office for requisition forms.
- Perform daily cash verification against transaction records and vouchers, generate 'End of Day' branch reports.
- Collaborate with the Operations Officer to manage branch vault operations and cash security.
- Engage with customers during transactions, identify cross-selling opportunities, and inform them about new products and services.
- Deliver excellent customer service by providing timely and courteous responses and escalating unresolved issues appropriately.
- Educate customers on using alternate banking channels for deposits, withdrawals, and inquiries.
- Ensure accurate cash counting at start and end of day, safeguard branch cash, keys, and valuables in coordination with the Assistant Branch Manager.
- Maintain adherence to turnaround times for transactions.
- Comply with all applicable banking regulations and internal policies related to cashier operations and cash management.
- Validate customer authenticity during withdrawals, verify deposit slips' accuracy, update passbooks as needed, and process currency chest deposits.
Learning and Development
- Stay informed about Ujjivan’s products, services, and regulatory requirements.
- Complete required certifications and mandatory training organized by operations.
- Participate in goal setting, mid-year reviews, and performance appraisals according to timelines.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Any undergraduate degree, preferably in Finance or Commerce.
- 1-2 years of experience handling large volumes of cash.
- Experience with financial modules or ERP systems entry and consolidation of accounting data.
- Proficient in cash handling and accounting, with an ability to detect counterfeit currency.
- Strong numerical skills and multitasking capability.
- Mandatory computer operation skills; relevant software training will be provided.
