Backend Engineer

About the Role

We seek a talented and driven Backend Engineer to join our expanding tech team to develop backend systems supporting innovative products including a food-ordering platform and an AI-driven video processing and clipping service.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and sustain scalable backend solutions primarily using Python and FastAPI.
• Create and maintain RESTful APIs for both web and mobile platforms.
• Design and administer PostgreSQL databases with attention to schema design, index optimization, and efficient querying.
• Implement secure authentication and authorization mechanisms, managing user roles and API security.
• Develop asynchronous processing workflows leveraging technologies like Celery and Redis.
• Manage job queues for extended background tasks including AI and video processing, notifications, and automation.
• Integrate external APIs, webhooks, and payment gateways for enhanced functionality.
• Build backend infrastructure tailored for SaaS multi-user platforms.
• Handle large files and video processing workflows as required.
• Develop APIs and services coordinating with AI/ML and video processing units.
• Ensure robust error handling, logging, retry logic, validation, and system monitoring.
• Optimize backend operations including database queries and API response times.
• Implement secure file upload, storage, and controlled access systems utilizing cloud storage solutions like S3-compatible services.
• Maintain high coding standards with modular, clear, and thoroughly documented code including unit and integration tests using Pytest.
• Review code collaboratively and uphold development best practices with Git.
• Collaborate closely with diverse teams including AI/ML experts, frontend and Flutter developers, DevOps, and QA engineers.
• Investigate and resolve production issues.
• Contribute to designing scalable technical architectures as product lines grow.

Candidate Profile

• At least 3 years of professional experience in backend development.
• Proficient in Python programming.
• Experienced with FastAPI, Django, or similar backend frameworks.
• Deep understanding of RESTful API design and backend architecture principles.
• Strong skills in PostgreSQL and SQL query optimization.
• Hands-on experience with Redis and asynchronous task processing systems.
• Familiarity with Celery, RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar message queue systems.
• Knowledgeable about authentication protocols including JWT, OAuth, and API security best practices.
• Comfortable working with Docker and Linux environments.
• Experienced with Git version control platforms such as GitHub or GitLab.
• Proven skill integrating third-party APIs and webhooks.
• Expertise in database performance tuning and indexing strategies.
• Capable of writing automated tests using Pytest or comparable frameworks.
• Understanding of cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Ability to design modular, scalable backend infrastructure and troubleshoot complex issues.
• Effective communication and team collaboration skills.
• Self-driven with ownership mindset on feature delivery and quality.

Additional Advantages

• Experience developing SaaS applications or multi-tenant architectures.
• Familiarity with AI/ML backend integrations, PyTorch inference, and GPU processing frameworks.
• Knowledge of media and video processing tools such as FFmpeg.
• Expertise managing large file/video uploads and S3 or S3-compatible storage solutions.
• Experience working with media platform APIs (YouTube, Twitch, Kick, etc.).
• WebSockets and real-time communication experience.
• Integration experience with payment gateways and subscription billing systems.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Sentry.
• Understanding distributed systems and event-driven architectural patterns.
