Auslan Video Interpreter

About the Role

We are inviting qualified and passionate Auslan interpreters to become part of our National Relay Service (NRS) Video Relay Service team, working from home anywhere in Australia. This position plays a crucial role in assisting the Deaf, hard of hearing, and individuals with speech communication difficulties, enabling effective and meaningful communication accessibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, professional Auslan interpreting services to clients of the National Relay Service.
• Ensure smooth and accurate communication facilitation between callers.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to requests from customers.
• Strictly maintain confidentiality of any personal and sensitive information handled during interpreting.
• Adhere to the Interpreter Code of Ethics and uphold professional standards.
• Foster a positive and inclusive environment for customers.

Qualifications and Skills

• NAATI accreditation as either a Provisional Certified Interpreter or Certified Interpreter is required.
• Proven experience interpreting for the Deaf community across diverse environments.
• Comprehensive understanding and dedication to the Interpreter Code of Ethics.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
• Membership of the Australian Sign Language Interpreters Association (ASLIA) is preferred.

Technical and Availability Requirements

• Reliable NBN wired internet connection with at least 50Mbps download and 20Mbps upload speeds.
• A designated private workspace for interpreting duties.
• Smartphone running Android 11+ or iOS 15.0+ to support multi-factor authentication.
• Availability to work a minimum of 8 hours weekly with 24/7 operational hours flexibility.
• Commitment to participate in three consecutive days of paid online training.

• Competitive hourly rates depending on certification level: $56.85 per hour (Level 2 Provisional Certified Interpreter) and $66.33 per hour (Level 3 Certified Interpreter), with casual loading where applicable.
