Role Summary
The Associate Director for Biosimilar Pricing, Analytics, and Strategy leads pricing strategy development across the biosimilar portfolio, managing launch pricing, contracting, and lifecycle price management for pharmacy and buy-and-bill channels. Reporting to the Head of the Biosimilar Business Unit, the role acts as the main point of contact for pricing and contracting across departments while maintaining expertise in commercial and government contract strategies, compliance, and financial modeling.
Key Responsibilities
- Design wholesale acquisition cost (WAC) and net pricing strategies for biosimilar product launches and lifecycle management.
- Create pricing models tailored to specific channels, evaluate average sales price (ASP) impacts, forecast scenarios, and make informed tradeoff decisions.
- Provide strategic pricing recommendations to senior leadership to optimize patient access.
- Serve as the organization's expert on commercial payor and government contracting, ensuring statutory pricing compliance, transparency, and gross-to-net (GTN) impact assessments.
- Collaborate with Finance on GTN budgeting, accruals, and related financial activities.
- Oversee government pricing programs, including statutory price calculations and adherence to federal regulations.
- Manage implementation, administration, and payment validation of payor and government contracts in coordination with internal teams and third-party vendors.
- Work closely with Legal to ensure contract compliance and appropriate agreement terms.
- Maintain communication with pricing compendia to report updates to the market.
- Monitor competitor pricing and recommend strategic responses.
- Maintain a pricing repository for product pricing and distributor terms to facilitate order processing.
- Participate in Sarbanes-Oxley compliance oversight related to pricing committees.
- Develop and update standard operating procedures for operational compliance.
- Coordinate with internal and external audit teams to uphold control compliance.
- Manage third-party vendor relationships and ensure quality deliverables.
- Potentially lead development of a team responsible for pricing and contracting operations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Advanced understanding of the U.S. healthcare system, including reimbursement, formulary strategy, and evolving market trends.
- Strong financial modeling skills, particularly in GTN and rebate structures, with hands-on experience in group purchasing organization (GPO) contracting, pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) formulary strategy, and payer negotiations highly preferred.
- Proficient in analyzing contract language and identifying potential risks.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment with initiative and independence.
- Experience working cross-functionally with diverse teams such as Accounting, Analytics, Compliance, Finance, Government Affairs, IT, Legal, Market Access, and Trade.
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and professional communication competence.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- A professional and proactive approach with strong interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience required; Master of Business Administration preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years in the pharmaceutical industry, including at least 5 years in biosimilar or managed markets leadership roles.
- Extensive experience (8+ years) in government pricing, commercial contracting, and gross-to-net support is required.
- Deep understanding of ASP/WAC pricing mechanics, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations, 340B program effects, Medicare Part B and D reimbursement, and buy-and-bill processes strongly preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary for this position ranges between $115,000 and $155,000 annually, determined based on qualifications and experience as well as other factors such as location.
