Overview
This role seeks a skilled Assistant Farm Manager to aid in managing a farm that includes both livestock and vegetation/crop sectors. The position involves supervising daily farm tasks, ensuring the well-being of animals, maintaining crops, overseeing irrigation and equipment, managing farm staff, and optimizing the use of resources while prioritizing safety and hygiene.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Support daily management of livestock care – feeding, watering, cleaning, handling, and monitoring health and behavior.
- Coordinate with veterinarians on vaccinations, treatments, breeding, and disease control measures.
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and biosecurity protocols in livestock housing.
- Track inventory related to animal feed, supplements, medicines, and other livestock supplies.
- Keep detailed records of animal population data, health events, breeding, and production.
- Assist in breeding processes, birthing activities, weaning, and animal movement techniques to minimize stress and injury.
- Supervise planting, cultivation, pruning, harvesting, and maintenance of farm vegetation including vegetables, trees, and crops.
- Monitor plant health, irrigation, fertilization, pest and weed control.
- Oversee irrigation infrastructure, water usage, and related equipment maintenance.
- Coordinate agricultural workers for various planting and maintenance operations.
- Detect and address plant health issues such as diseases and nutrient deficiencies.
- Manage proper storage and safe handling of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and farming tools.
- Assist the Farm Manager with daily planning and operational coordination across all farm activities.
- Supervise labor teams including farmhands, animal caretakers, and gardeners, ensuring attendance and productivity standards are met.
- Ensure upkeep and maintenance of farm machinery, vehicles, and irrigation systems.
- Monitor consumption of inputs such as feed, water, fertilizers, pesticides, and fuel.
- Maintain general cleanliness and waste management across the farm.
- Assist with procurement and stock management of farm supplies.
- Compile operational reports regularly for managerial review.
- Support initiatives to improve farm infrastructure, expansion, and implement modern agricultural practices.
- Enforce compliance with health, safety, hygiene, environmental, and animal welfare standards.
- Promote the use of personal protective equipment and safe work procedures among staff.
- Ensure safe storage and use of chemicals and secure farm machinery operation.
- Implement biosecurity measures and disease prevention strategies.
- Promptly report accidents, animal health incidents, equipment issues, and other operational concerns.
Required Qualifications
- A diploma or bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Horticulture, Agribusiness, or a related discipline.
- Relevant hands-on experience with managing farm operations incorporating both livestock and crops.
- Proven ability in supervising farm employees and coordinating daily agricultural tasks.
- Practical knowledge of animal care, feeding, breeding, and health monitoring.
- Expertise in irrigation management, planting, fertilization, pest control, harvesting, and vegetation upkeep.
- Basic technical understanding of farm machinery and irrigation systems.
- Strong record-keeping and reporting capabilities.
- Physically fit and able to work effectively in outdoor farm conditions.
Preferred Experience
- Experience managing or working in large farms, private estates, or villa farms.
- Familiarity with multiple livestock species including cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, camels, or other animals typical to farming.
- Experience in vegetable growing, fruit tree care, landscaping, greenhouse, or plantation management.
- Experience operating farm activities in hot or arid climates is valuable.
- Additional veterinary or agricultural technical knowledge is considered an asset.
