About Southwest Tennessee Community College

Position Overview
We invite you to join the Southwest team as a Web Developer, a full-time position reporting to the Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Communications. This role is responsible for leading the conception, creation, maintenance, and coordination of all digital content on the Southwest Tennessee Community College website. Collaborating closely with the Marketing and Communications department and various college units, the Web Developer directs the publication processes to support the college’s mission through effective website management.
Key Responsibilities
- Curate, monitor, update, and maintain website content and graphics.
- Act as the website administrator, staying current with web usability standards, HTML, CSS, scripting languages, browser compatibility, and accessibility.
- Produce quality HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to enhance online presence and achieve objectives.
- Review and implement website modifications critically and efficiently.
- Evaluate new web standards, technologies, and trends to plan future enhancements.
- Ensure website accessibility and compatibility across diverse platforms.
- Provide graphic design assistance as needed.
- Manage and optimize AdWords campaigns to boost student engagement.
- Lead website projects from strategy through execution, including development and redesign.
- Administer CMS systems, editing stylesheets, templates, and layouts.
- Update the website promptly in emergencies or critical communications.
- Develop, write, and schedule online content strategically.
- Support crisis management efforts by monitoring and responding to negative feedback.
- Create, edit, publish, and share daily content including text, images, videos, and HTML.
- Encourage community interaction through meaningful messaging and dialogue.
- Moderate user-generated content following college policies.
- Analyze website analytics to inform and improve future initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in web design, art, communications, journalism, advertising, marketing, graphic design, or related discipline; or an associate degree with 10+ years of web design experience.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience managing and creating digital content, including proficiency in web programming/development languages, web analytics, digital marketing, email marketing, search marketing, and SEO. Experience in higher education or agencies is preferred.
Capabilities and Expertise
- Proven skills in creating, editing, and maintaining digital content, ideally in a higher education environment.
- Experience with enterprise content management systems, specifically OmniCMS preferred.
- Knowledge of web programming languages such as HTML and PHP.
- Ability to develop basic and advanced website features through coding.
- Experience with digital marketing tactics, including email marketing, search marketing, and SEO.
- Proficient with web analytics tools, preferably Google Analytics.
- Strong design skills with the ability to produce engaging content.
- Exceptional communication capabilities to foster collaboration among technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Dedication to providing excellent customer service.
- Strong organizational skills to streamline processes.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Skilled in advising and working effectively with management.
- Team player with ability to motivate colleagues and contribute positively to team dynamics.
- Proactive and strategic thinker capable of prioritizing tasks and developing creative solutions.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop is advantageous, as is understanding of photography and videography.
- Capable of editing and producing quality images.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends for event coverage.
- Experienced in managing social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
