Overview
The Utility Technician plays a critical role in installing, operating, and maintaining generators and associated utility systems at Carnival Corporation's global destinations. This individual ensures reliable operation through routine inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical faults, and adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, test, and operate primary and backup generators to maintain continuous power during outages or emergencies.
- Monitor generator performance including load, fuel consumption, and operating conditions, adjusting settings for optimal efficiency.
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs, replacing faulty components as needed.
- Read, calibrate, and manage utility meters for propane, diesel, electricity, water, and gas, analyzing data for anomalies or inefficiencies.
- Maintain comprehensive logs detailing generator performance, maintenance activities, utility consumption, and repairs.
- Ensure all operations comply strictly with safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.
- Use and maintain personal protective equipment correctly and promote proper waste disposal practices.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams and other departments to ensure uninterrupted utility services and communicate operational updates to management.
- Carry out additional duties to support overall operational goals as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Utility Management or related disciplines preferred.
- Technical certifications in electrical, mechanical, or utility-related fields desirable.
- Minimum of three years operating and maintaining large-scale generators or in industrial utility settings.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities.
- Experience with energy management systems and relevant diagnostic tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with utility monitoring technologies.
- Excellent ability to read and interpret technical documents such as blueprints and manuals.
- Effective communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
- Ability to work physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects and working outdoors in various conditions.
- Flexibility to handle rotating, on-call, and emergency shifts including weekends and holidays.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and critical thinking abilities with proactive problem-solving orientation.
Physical and Other Requirements
- Physically fit to perform duties requiring standing for long periods, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
- Capable of participating in emergency lifesaving drills with full physical and sensory abilities.
