Trade Assistant Level 1

Role Overview

Ventia is collaborating with the Victorian Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) to deliver integrated facility management and maintenance services across key government infrastructure. We are looking for a proactive Trade Assistant Level 1 to join our team at the Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct. In this role, you will support qualified tradespeople and maintenance staff by assisting in planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance activities that help keep the facility secure, operational, and safe.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out basic inspections on facilities, equipment, and assets.
• Support tradespersons with scheduled preventative and reactive maintenance tasks.
• Perform general labour duties and assist in maintenance support functions.
• Conduct maintenance and housekeeping activities to ensure site cleanliness and order.
• Execute minor maintenance and repair work within skill limits.
• Transport materials, tools, and equipment around the site safely.
• Complete work orders and all necessary documentation accurately.
• Identify and report any maintenance problems, safety hazards, or defects.
• Assist contractors and other maintenance personnel during work on-site.
• Comply with all Ventia, DJCS, and safety regulations and policies.
• Help maintain a safe, professional, and customer-oriented workplace environment.

Candidate Profile

• Exhibit a positive mindset combined with a strong commitment to hard work and teamwork.
• Possess effective communication capabilities and a keen willingness to learn and upskill.
• Have prior experience in labouring, maintenance, or as a trade assistant is preferred but not mandatory.
• Hold a current unrestricted driver’s license.
• Be eligible to obtain and maintain a National Police Check and Working with Children Check.

• Enjoy a monthly Rostered Day Off (RDO) aligned with a 19-day, 152-hour work roster.
• Receive approximately 5 weeks leave annually, combining 4 weeks of annual leave and about 12 RDOs.

• Are paid on a fortnightly basis.
