The Opportunity

This opening is for a Technical Recruiter who will help build the recruiting function rather than simply operate within it. The role sits on a small People team that is intentionally designing recruiting workflows with AI embedded from the outset.

The person in this seat will lead full-cycle hiring for the company’s most technical teams, spanning product and platform, while also shaping what excellent technical recruiting looks like inside Opendoor.

Key Responsibilities

Full-Cycle Technical Recruiting

  • Lead substantive screening discussions that cover system design, ML fundamentals, and engineering trade-offs.
  • Work closely with hiring managers to define openings and preserve a high hiring standard throughout the process.

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Act as the main talent partner for highly technical and demanding hiring managers.
  • Challenge role scope, hiring speed, talent bar, or market assumptions when needed, using data to support recommendations.
  • Convert complex technical needs into compelling candidate messaging and sourcing approaches.
  • Keep hiring managers informed with proactive pipeline communication so they always know the status of searches.

AI-Embedded Recruiting

  • Use AI to improve sourcing, screening, outreach, and pipeline analysis as part of the everyday recruiting workflow.

Function Building

  • Build recruiting processes, hiring-manager guides, and interview frameworks from the ground up.
  • Help maintain ATS quality, job description templates, outreach sequences, and reporting practices.
  • Ensure recruiting connects smoothly with onboarding, leveling, and compensation processes.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of end-to-end technical recruiting experience at a high-growth technology company, with ownership of the process from start to finish.
  • Demonstrated success hiring for software engineering and ML/AI or comparable technical roles, with a clear understanding of leveling and role expectations across seniority bands.
  • Experience in a lean startup or similarly fast-moving environment where processes had to be built from scratch without compromising quality.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools in recruiting today, rather than merely planning to adopt them.
  • Ability to participate in business reviews, handle difficult stakeholder conversations, and draft a strong job description within the same day.
  • A habit of monitoring pipeline metrics independently, identifying drop-off points, and bringing actionable insights instead of only status updates.

Strong Differentiators

  • Background hiring engineers, MLOps talent, or AI platform specialists.
