Role Overview

The Associate Analyst, Sustainability, plays a significant role in supporting Macy’s sustainability strategy through data management and analysis. This role is responsible for creating and maintaining data pipelines, dashboards, and reports that are critical for monitoring sustainability goals, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting disclosures, and guiding business decisions to mitigate risk and enhance sustainability performance. Additionally, the position involves fostering strong internal data governance and aiding external audits.

Key Responsibilities

• Streamline sustainability reporting by identifying opportunities to automate routine reports, minimizing manual data work, and enhancing data reliability across all sustainability projects using diverse data sources.
• Assist in gathering, verifying, documenting, and preparing sustainability data related to climate initiatives, extended producer responsibility (EPR), waste diversion, traceability, and external disclosure needs to ensure audit preparedness.
• Develop, update, and improve dashboards using tools like Power BI to monitor sustainability metrics for both tactical use and executive-level reporting.
• Extract and communicate meaningful insights to inform sustainability strategies, risk management efforts, and empower users to leverage dashboards effectively for decision-making.
• Address and resolve issues related to data integrity on an ongoing basis.
• Work closely with engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications, enabling scalable solutions.
• Help implement and maintain sustainability data governance practices, including setting data standards, oversight of data dependencies, controlling data processes, documenting workflows, and addressing issues. Collaboration is key with departments such as Sustainability, Finance, Private Brands, Procurement, Environmental Services, Stores/Distribution Centers, MTech, and external partners to fill data gaps and improve accuracy.
• Support the Conflict Minerals disclosure process by managing supplier data acquisition, tracking completeness of responses, documentation maintenance, and preparing information for cross-functional review involving Sustainability and Legal teams.
• Oversee business procedures like supplier onboarding, required confirmations, and audit tracking for private brand products ordered outside of overseas sourcing from Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Bluemercury.
• Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Encourage a culture of inclusion and respect that fosters strong relationships and authentic connections among colleagues, customers, and community members.
• Carry out additional duties as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Proficient use of Power BI, SQL, Excel, and authorized AI tools to automate processes, improve data quality, analyze complex information, and generate insightful, decision-ready reports.
• Experienced with AI tools to enhance data analysis, reporting accuracy, workflow automation, and research, exercising sound judgment to determine when human oversight is essential.
• Skilled in creating user-friendly and scalable dashboards designed to support both executive and detailed analytical needs.
• Strong analytical ability to track data points from dashboards back to source databases, validating accuracy for decision support.
• Meticulous attention to detail in validating multi-platform complex datasets.
• Effective communication skills to clearly convey complex data findings and collaborate with internal teams and external partners, facilitating informed decision-making.
• A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in enterprise data analysis and dashboard development.
• Curious and proactive mindset towards adopting new tools and technologies that improve data accessibility and decision-making quality.
• Capable of balancing technical analytics expertise with business acumen for translating data into understandable insights.
• Highly organized and accountable for the data solutions and metrics produced.
• Flexible and adaptive to changing business priorities and external conditions.
• Comfortable performing essential job functions including communication, collaboration, and using office and computer systems; physical ability to engage with written and electronic information and handle workplace materials.
• Willingness to travel domestically up to 1-2 times annually.
• Based in Johns Creek, GA, with a hybrid work arrangement.
