Supply Chain Manager - Returnable Packaging Programs

The Service Packaging Engineering team at this company manages packaging solutions that support a global service and parts distribution network. Returnable packaging plays an essential role in sustainability and cost efficiency and is a newly established function within the team.

Role Summary

As the Supply Chain Manager for Returnable Packaging Programs, you will be responsible for establishing and overseeing the entire lifecycle of returnable container fleets. This includes everything from conceptualizing business cases and initial rollouts to fleet oversight, cycle counting, managing returns, and replenishment activities.

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-end ownership of returnable packaging fleets such as totes, racks, dunnage, and custom containers supporting the service parts distribution network.
• Creation and maintenance of fleet sizing models to monitor inventory, usage rates, and return logistics; implementation of cycle counting programs to ensure fleet accuracy.
• Manage container reorders based on attrition, damage rates, and demand growth, including coordinating sourcing and purchase justifications.
• Develop and oversee network strategies and reverse logistics to recover containers from service points, distribution centers, and end-of-life sites.
• Build business cases and ROI analyses for returnable packaging investments, covering total cost of ownership and payback periods; present findings to finance and leadership for capital expenditure approvals.
• Detect supply chain bottlenecks, collaborate with internal teams and vendors to resolve issues, and apply process improvements to reduce dependency on expendable packaging.
• Work closely with packaging engineers and other stakeholders to support packaging design, manage supplier deadlines, and broaden program reach across new service platforms and regions.

Candidate Profile

• Degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience with demonstrated exceptional capabilities.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in supply chain planning, procurement, packaging operations, logistics, or critical process operations within a fast-paced environment.
• Proven experience managing returnable or reusable packaging fleets, including fleet tracking, cycle counting, repairs, and reorder planning.
• Knowledge of service parts logistics, packaging engineering, warehouse operations, or aftermarket automotive supply chains.
• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in ERP, WMS, TMS, SQL, Tableau, and Power BI; adept at translating data into actionable operational strategies.
• Innovative problem solver with solid judgment, able to build systems in ambiguous situations, manage multiple priorities professionally, and communicate effectively across organizational levels.
• Project management certification such as PMP or equivalent is preferred.
