Software Engineering Manager II, Google Cloud

About the Role

As a Software Engineering Manager at Google Cloud, you will provide both technical leadership and people management, overseeing engineers involved in varied domains such as artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, system design, and more. You will guide multiple teams across locations, managing large-scale projects and significant budgets to help shape the future of scalable AI and infrastructure technologies while creating impactful computing solutions globally.

Responsibilities

• Establish and communicate team objectives that align with organizational goals.
• Coordinate strategies, operational processes, and decisions across multiple teams.
• Set well-defined expectations with team members tailored to their roles and levels, fostering ongoing performance discussions and coaching.
• Develop and maintain a mid-term technical vision and roadmap for one or more teams, adapting to projected infrastructure and business needs.
• Lead system design reviews and contribute hands-on code development to tackle complex and ambiguous technical problems.
• Evaluate peer code submissions to uphold best coding practices including style, accuracy, test coverage, and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• At least 8 years of software development experience in languages such as Python, C, C++, Java, or JavaScript.
• Minimum of 3 years in a technical leadership role.
• At least 2 years managing teams or people.
• Preferred: Master's or PhD in Computer Science or relevant technical discipline.
• Preferred: 3 years of experience navigating complex, matrixed organizational structures.
