About the Role

As a Software Engineer focused on AI in an early career capacity, you'll contribute to shaping foundational user experiences and accelerating how users derive value from Notion’s platform. The role includes tackling meaningful challenges, owning key projects, making critical technical decisions, and collaborating closely with experts across product design and data science. You will work on cutting-edge AI features employing large language models, embeddings, and other advanced AI technologies.

This position could align with different AI-driven teams such as AI product engineering, systems engineering for model integration, or evaluation and quality assurance leveraging human-in-loop testing.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with team members to prototype and deliver AI-enhanced product improvements.
• Manage production-level projects incorporating new AI models or techniques into workflows, enhancing latency, cost efficiency, reliability, and monitoring safeguards.
• Develop and expand evaluation frameworks, run experiments, analyze outcomes, and apply insights to improve model and product quality.

Candidate Requirements

• Less than two years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems alongside a pragmatic, customer-focused mindset.
• Hands-on experience with building and iterating software prototypes, familiarity with AI/ML concepts through academic projects, internships, or competitions.
• Comfortable with product components integration including UI, APIs, and relational databases (e.g., Postgres, MySQL), and able to develop functional features with guidance.
• Strategic problem solver who understands context, real-life impact, and can navigate ambiguity to deliver effective solutions balancing technical and business factors.
• Technology viewed as a tool for user impact rather than an end; pragmatic in choosing and applying AI tools like Cursor, Claude Code, etc., to maximize value.
• Strong communication and initiative, owning projects with minimal supervision, proactively identifying challenges and solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with parts of Notion’s technology stack including React, TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres, and Elasticsearch.
• Appreciation for the societal implications of technology and responsibility of technologists.
• An understanding of computing pioneers and their significance.

The position offers a competitive salary range estimated between 130,000 to 150,000 USD annually, varying based on location, role complexity, and individual experience.
