Role Overview

In the role of Social Media Advisor, you will serve as the digital voice for Tauranga City Council, crafting engaging content that resonates with our community. You will communicate everything from key city initiatives to everyday services, shaping clear, accessible narratives that foster trust and clarity. This position entails full ownership of our social media platforms—from planning and publishing to analyzing data and generating reports. Collaborating closely with our Strategic Content Lead, you will be part of an encouraging team that will nurture your creative ideas and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and manage content across all social media channels representing the Council.
• Create compelling, relatable stories to enhance public understanding and engagement.
• Utilize analytics and social listening tools to optimize social media strategy and performance.
• Maintain adherence to brand guidelines, governance policies, and approval procedures.
• Handle crisis or emerging issues calmly while ensuring appropriate messaging.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Possess 2 to 5 years of experience in social media management, digital communication, content creation or copywriting.
• Relevant formal qualification in a related field.
• Proficiency in managing social media platforms end-to-end including content scheduling and performance tracking.
• Ability to translate complex or technical data into accessible, engaging content suitable for diverse audiences.
• Experience with analytics and social listening tools.
• Strong attention to detail and capability to stay composed under pressure.
• Cultural competency and experience connecting with diverse communities, including Māori and iwi populations.
• Prior agency experience is considered advantageous.
