About the Role
Join Thermo Fisher Scientific as a SIOP Manager where you will lead the comprehensive Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning processes for a portfolio aligned with the life sciences, diagnostics, laboratory products, or regulated manufacturing sectors. This role is pivotal in establishing alignment across diverse functions—Commercial, Operations, Procurement, Finance, Quality, and Product Management—to develop an integrated operating plan that supports customer service, revenue targets, inventory control, and margin objectives.
You will oversee monthly governance of SIOP, facilitate informed decisions on demand-supply imbalances, manage inventory approaches across the portfolio, and provide visibility of risks, opportunities, and mitigation measures at the executive level. Your analytical expertise, business insight, and influencing capabilities within a complex matrix organization are critical.
Work Environment and Schedule
- Standard office hours, typically 40 hours per week.
- Work location is office-based.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct and lead all monthly SIOP-related meetings including demand, supply, inventory reviews, pre-SIOP, and executive meetings.
- Work closely with Commercial and Product Management teams to incorporate market insights, sales forecasts, promotional plans, product lifecycle events, and regional needs into a unified demand plan.
- Coordinate with Supply Planning, Manufacturing, and Distribution to ensure capacity, material availability, and fulfillment strategies align with business goals.
- Develop and maintain inventory strategies across finished goods, spare parts, and critical components balancing service, shelf-life constraints, capital, and obsolescence risks.
- Identify and resolve demand and supply imbalances using scenario modeling, prioritization, and cross-functional collaborations.
- Lead risk assessment and mitigation in response to supplier constraints, quality or regulatory challenges, product transitions, allocation decisions, and logistics disruptions.
- Prepare and present performance updates, trade-offs, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership at executive SIOP reviews.
- Support new product introductions, product phase transitions, end-of-life planning, and any engineering or regulatory changes affecting the portfolio.
- Ensure accuracy, alignment, and documentation of planning assumptions, master data, and critical inputs across systems and stakeholders.
- Track and report on key performance indicators such as forecast accuracy, inventory turns, days of supply, service levels, backorders, plan adherence, excess and obsolete inventory, and capacity utilization.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing planning discipline, system utilization, process efficiency, and portfolio performance.
- Act as the lead cross-functional contact for critical portfolio planning decisions and escalations.
Portfolio and Planning Considerations
- The portfolio may include instruments and consumables used in laboratories, analytical and chromatography items, biosciences reagents and chemicals, diagnostic or clinical product lines, and regulated consumables or aftermarket/service demand requirements.
- The planning environment involves managing complex SKUs, global manufacturing and supplier networks, regulatory compliance, inventory sensitive to expiration or shelf-life, specialized handling (cold chain, hazardous materials), long lead times or sole-source components, product lifecycle management, and installed-base replenishment demand.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline.
- 7 to 10 years of pertinent experience in SIOP, sales and operations planning, integrated business planning, demand and supply planning, inventory management, or related supply chain roles.
- Experience within regulated and operationally complex sectors such as life sciences, diagnostics, medical devices, laboratory products, or specialty chemicals.
- Proven track record of leading cross-functional planning initiatives and achieving consensus in matrixed environments.
- Deep understanding of demand forecasting, inventory optimization, supply and capacity planning, and managing business trade-offs.
- Strong proficiency in ERP systems, planning tools, advanced Excel capabilities, and reporting software.
Preferred Credentials
- Previous experience managing a Thermo Fisher Scientific product portfolio or similar life sciences and laboratory products segment.
- Certifications such as APICS/ASCM CPIM, CSCP, or CLTD.
- Advanced academic qualifications like an MBA.
- Hands-on experience with SAP, Oracle, Power BI, Tableau, or comparable analytics tools.
- Keen understanding of GMP, FDA, ISO, or other regulated operational standards.
- Experience managing demand dynamics between instruments and consumables, distributor demand patterns, and global portfolio strategies.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent facilitation and stakeholder relationship management capabilities.
- Strong analytical, quantitative analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to distill complex data sets into actionable business insights.
- Effective communication skills for executive presentations and cross-team collaboration.
- Competence in prioritizing and decision-making within fast-paced or ambiguous situations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of inventory drivers and working capital considerations.
- Proven ability to influence stakeholders without formal authority and work cross-functionally.
- A mindset focused on continuous improvement and rigorous process governance.
Key Performance Indicators
- Accuracy and bias of forecasts.
- Service level and on-time in-full delivery performance.
- Inventory turnover rates and days of supply.
- Reduction of backorders and overdue orders.
- Minimization of excess and obsolete inventory.
- Visibility of capacity and adherence to plans.
- Compliance with SIOP calendar and timely issue resolutions.
- Support for revenue and customer service even during supply constraints.
