Job description
Role Overview
This position entails leading the creation, execution, and ongoing refinement of governance frameworks that safeguard data integrity, security, and regulatory compliance throughout the bank’s global business functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and uphold a thorough data and records governance framework aligned with legal mandates and industry norms.
- Track organizational adherence to data quality standards and record-keeping metrics.
- Identify risks related to data and records management and implement mitigation plans.
- Develop and oversee a records management program ensuring accurate classification, secure storage, mandated retention, easy retrieval, and appropriate disposal of records.
- Formulate and advance a data governance strategy that integrates with the company's broader data management goals and business objectives.
- Provide enterprise-wide guidance and training on data and records management standards.
Experience and Skillset
- Profound comprehension of data governance principles including ownership, metadata, lineage, Critical Data Elements (CDEs), data quality, records management, and compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to engage and persuade senior stakeholders across business units, technology, risk, and regulatory teams to align governance initiatives.
- Strong experience in assessing and managing data-related risks and ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal controls.
- Familiarity with governance and metadata management platforms such as Collibra, Informatica, IBM Information Governance Catalog, and ServiceNow.
- Experience directing governance workstreams in large transformations, mergers, integrations, or cloud/data platform migration projects.
- Understanding of financial services regulatory frameworks related to data governance.
- Specific knowledge of Barclays Global Data Records Management System (GDRMS) is advantageous.
Leadership and Strategic Responsibilities
- Contribute to strategic planning, resource management, budgeting, and policy formulation for data governance.
- Potentially manage a team: define roles, plan for growth, support employee development, and oversee performance and compensation decisions.
- Displayed leadership behaviors including listening genuinely, inspiring energy, alignment across business areas, and fostering team development.
- Serve as a subject matter expert providing technical guidance, leading multi-year initiatives, coaching junior staff, and influencing long-term organizational strategy on data governance and controls.
- Advise senior leadership and functional teams on impacts and opportunities related to data governance.
- Manage risk assessments and reinforce control frameworks within team activities.
- Build collaborative relationships internally and externally using negotiation and influencing skills.
