About the Role
We are looking for a proficient Senior Data Engineer skilled in Python and SQL to join a leading global technology company based in Letterkenny, County Donegal, Ireland. This role centers on creating and maintaining robust, scalable data platforms that support critical analytics, reporting, and strategic business functions. As part of a dynamic engineering team, you will design and implement enterprise-grade data ingestion and provisioning solutions using modern technologies and contribute to significant data platform transformations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and uphold scalable pipelines for data ingestion and provisioning critical to business operations.
- Implement high-quality Python applications utilizing object-oriented programming and engineering best practices.
- Design efficient data transformation workflows integrating diverse structured and semi-structured data sources.
- Craft optimized SQL queries for complex data handling, validation, and report generation.
- Manage and work with enterprise relational databases including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
- Ensure production data pipelines deliver stability, optimal performance, and reliability.
- Perform root cause analysis on data issues, implementing durable solutions to enhance data quality and reliability.
- Collaborate across Python and Java technology stacks to deliver unified data solutions.
- Engage in continuous platform and process improvement initiatives, identifying automation and efficiency opportunities.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, technical standards, and data models to support engineering excellence.
- Participate actively in Agile team processes and promote a culture of ongoing improvement.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or related field.
- At least 5 years’ experience in software or data engineering roles.
- Advanced proficiency in Python development with strong object-oriented programming skills.
- Proven track record designing and managing data ingestion and provisioning pipelines.
- Expertise in SQL development, including complex query formation, performance tuning, and optimization.
- Experience with relational database systems such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
- Deep understanding of data quality standards, validation procedures, and operational support practices.
- Experience within Agile frameworks and collaborative environments.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting capabilities.
- Strong communication skills suitable for technical and business audiences.
Preferred Skills
- Java programming experience in enterprise contexts.
- Working knowledge across both Python and Java ecosystems.
- Familiarity with Financial Services or Investment Management data domains.
- Exposure to cloud platform migrations and modernization projects.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and modern software delivery techniques.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary will be negotiated based on experience.
