About the Role

Join the Ministry of Education in Wellington as a permanent Senior Data Analyst within the Tertiary System Performance Analysis team. This full-time position involves working with complex and large datasets to support tertiary education data stewardship, assisting a high-performing research and analysis group. Responsibilities cover the full data and reporting lifecycle, from data collation through to publishing national statistics. Collaboration with agencies such as the Tertiary Education Commission and Stats NZ is central to this role. Key Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and interpret extensive datasets related to tertiary education.
• Develop and sustain strong relationships across multiple organizations for effective data exchange and collaboration.
• Support the delivery of research, analysis, and information priorities concerning tertiary education.
• Engage with stakeholders including the Tertiary Education Commission, Stats NZ, and other agencies to manage data supply and exchange.

Candidate Profile

• Proven expertise handling and analyzing statistical data in complex datasets.
• Strong command of SAS, Power BI, and Excel for data analysis and presentation.
• Effective problem-solving, numerical analysis, and analytical capabilities.
• Ability to prepare clear reports and data visualizations for both technical and general audiences.
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal abilities.
• A committed mindset towards fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
• Intellectual curiosity with a focus on process enhancement.
• Familiarity with the tertiary education sector is advantageous.
• Willingness to adhere to Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

About the Team

The Tertiary System Performance Analysis team provides evidence and data that inform tertiary education policies, covering all facets of the sector including access, achievement, investment, quality, and outcomes. The team supports analytical policy work, detailed research, statistical reporting, monitoring, forecasting, and modeling. The broader Tertiary and Evidence group undertakes significant work to enhance tertiary education inclusivity and responsiveness across various social and economic policy dimensions, collaborating with multiple government agencies.

Additional Information

• The salary range for this role is between $100,296 and $121,490 NZD annually, plus KiwiSaver benefits. The exact salary will be determined based on the candidate's experience and skills.
