Senior Agricultural Engineer

Position Overview

Black Tulip Flowers LLC is seeking a seasoned Senior Agricultural Engineer to oversee branch operations in Doha, Qatar. This role demands deep expertise in managing indoor and outdoor plant environments, horticulture, landscaping, irrigation, project design, cost estimation, project management, and business development initiatives. The successful candidate will blend technical skills, leadership, commercial insight, and customer relations to enhance the branch's overall performance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee daily branch operations ensuring optimal performance.
• Lead, mentor, and manage teams including engineers, horticulturists, supervisors, technicians, and project staff.
• Supervise all activities related to indoor and outdoor plant management: selection, sourcing, installation, maintenance, replacement, and quality assurance.
• Design tailored plant solutions for settings such as indoor environments, hotels, offices, residences, commercial venues, gardens, and outdoor landscapes.
• Perform site evaluations and assess needs for plants, horticulture, irrigation, and landscaping.
• Prepare and assess landscape, horticultural, indoor and outdoor plant, and irrigation designs.
• Create Bills of Quantities (BOQs), execute quantity take-offs, estimate costs, prepare quotations, and develop tender documents.
• Review technical drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and tender submissions.
• Accurately calculate project costs and maintain profit margins.
• Coordinate all project phases from design and cost estimation through to execution and final handover.
• Manage resources including workforce, plant materials, equipment, logistics, and subcontractors.
• Engage with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure project alignment.
• Design and implement plant maintenance and horticultural strategies for commercial and residential clients.
• Identify and develop new opportunities in landscaping, indoor/outdoor plants, horticulture, irrigation, and maintenance services.
• Take part in client meetings, site visits, technical presentations, and negotiation discussions.
• Monitor project budgets, track progress, oversee quality control, enhance productivity, and ensure profitability.
• Seek and implement cost-saving measures, value engineering, and continuous operational improvements.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Horticulture, Landscape Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in landscaping, horticulture, indoor and outdoor plants, irrigation, agricultural contracting, or a similar field.
• Demonstrated prior exposure to branch management, project oversight, or a senior technical and commercial leadership role.
• In-depth knowledge of plant care for indoor and outdoor environments, horticulture practices, landscape constructions, and irrigation systems.
• Proven expertise in design processes, BOQ preparation, cost estimation, and tendering.
• Proficient with AutoCAD, MS Excel, and the broader Microsoft Office suite.
• Strong commercial acumen, excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent leadership qualities alongside effective communication, negotiation, and client management skills.
• Ability to juggle multiple projects and lead various teams and client engagements concurrently.
• Work experience in the GCC or Qatar region is preferred.
• Holding a valid Qatar driving license is considered an advantage.

Ideal Profile

The preferred applicant is able to autonomously operate a branch, harmonizing indoor plant services, outdoor landscaping, horticulture, irrigation design, cost estimations, sales, project delivery, and general operations. Candidates should be adept at handling entire project lifecycles: assessing client needs, conducting site surveys, designing landscapes and plant plans, preparing BOQs and proposals, negotiating contracts, executing projects, maintaining assets, and finalizing handovers.
