SAP Functional Consultant - Testing & Automation

About the Role

This is a full-time position within a mid-sized enterprise SaaS company specializing in AI-driven, codeless digital assurance solutions tailored to banking and retail sectors. The consultant's main responsibility is to leverage SAP functional expertise combined with disciplined testing and JavaScript-based automation to enhance release quality and regression coverage. This role is ideal for a mid to senior-level professional with 5 to 10 years of direct experience in SAP consulting, testing, or automation.

The work model is matrixed, requiring close coordination with product, engineering, quality, business, and customer-facing teams. The environment encourages collaborative execution, decisive processes, rapid innovation, and accountability throughout the full SAP delivery cycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze client business workflows, clarify requirements, and develop comprehensive functional test scenarios with traceable test conditions.
• Engage in SAP project phases including implementation, enhancement, rollout, migration, support, and system stabilization across relevant modules and integrations.
• Create, review, and update Functional Specification Documents, process maps, test data needs, acceptance standards, and test validation records.
• Verify SAP configuration alignment with approved business needs, control mechanisms, integration behavior, and end-to-end processes.
• Plan and conduct Functional, System Integration, User Acceptance, Regression, Smoke, and comprehensive end-to-end SAP testing cycles.
• Build, customize, debug, and maintain automated SAP test scripts using JavaScript-based automation platforms and reusable components.
• Transition stable manual test cases into maintainable automated versions ensuring business intent and traceability are preserved.
• Maintain trustworthy regression test suites, reusable assets, test data sets, execution schedules, and documented proof needed for release decisions.
• Detect, document, prioritize, and track defects with clear reproduction steps, business impacts, supporting information, and defined resolution criteria.
• Collaborate effectively with business users, ABAP developers, QA analysts, automation experts, product managers, and project leaders.
• Evaluate SAP cross-functional dependencies and validate interfaces, data flows, process transitions, and downstream outcomes.
• Support test planning, effort estimation, readiness validation, execution reporting, defect triage, go-live preparations, and post-launch verification.
• Implement strong coding standards, review practices, version control, and maintainability for automation scripts, utilities, test data, and documentation.
• Communicate testing risks, coverage gaps, quality insights, blockers, and release recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Systems, or equivalent professional experience.
• Proven SAP functional expertise demonstrated via hands-on project delivery, configuration validations, testing, and deep understanding of business processes.
• Advanced proficiency in JavaScript (ideally ES6 or later) to develop, maintain, and troubleshoot automation scripts.
• Between 5 and 10 years of experience in SAP functional consulting, testing, quality assurance, or test automation roles.
• Practical involvement in at least one SAP implementation project, including transition phases into testing and automation responsibilities.
• Ownership of Functional, SIT, UAT, Regression, Smoke, and End-to-End testing in structured project environments.
• Experience in gathering requirements, validating SAP setups, preparing Functional Specification Documents, supporting go-live events, and managing defect resolution.
• Maintenance of automation scripts and regression suites critical to core SAP processes and enterprise workflows.

Technical and Functional Skills

• Expertise in SAP functional testing across various test cycles: SIT, UAT, regression, smoke, and end-to-end.
• Knowledge of SAP implementation life cycle including requirements gathering, configuration validation, functional specification documentation, testing, cutover, and go-live support.
• Proficient in JavaScript ES6+ for automation scripting, reusable functions, debugging, and framework upkeep.
• Hands-on experience with SAP test automation frameworks based on JavaScript or equivalent codeless/code-assisted enterprise automation solutions.
• Understanding of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, DOM manipulation, REST APIs, JSON payloads, and integration validation.
• Strong awareness of SAP business process workflows, cross-module integration, interface management, master data, and transactional dependencies.
• Competence in test design methodologies, requirements traceability, test data preparation, defect management, evidence collection, and reporting.
• Capability to coordinate with ABAP developers without the need for direct ABAP coding ownership by the consultant.

• Exposure to multiple SAP functional modules, complex cross-module business processes, and enterprise integration scenarios.
• Familiarity with modern automation design principles, reusable components, API-driven validation, and maintainable regression test architectures.
• Professional certifications related to SAP functional consulting, software testing, quality assurance, JavaScript programming, or test automation.
• Background supporting global banking, retail, or other high-control enterprises with stringent release-quality standards.

Educational Eligibility

Eligible applicants should hold a B.Tech or B.E. degree in Computer Science and Engineering or closely related fields such as Computer Science and Business Systems, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Cyber Security, Robotics and Automation Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
