Role Overview

As a Research Scientist, you will lead investigations into risks such as loss-of-control and adversarial manipulation in frontier AI systems. This role involves developing innovative evaluation methods, including techniques for assessing awareness, mitigation tactics like sandbagging, and detecting deceptive behaviors in AI models.

Key Duties

• Leading cutting-edge research on risks related to advanced AI behaviors.
• Creating and implementing novel methodological approaches for evaluating AI safety.
• Composing detailed safety analyses and research papers for publication.
• Collaborating with the research team to define overall investigative directions.
• Interacting with broader AI safety stakeholders including institutes, frontier research labs, and academia.

Candidate Profile

• Proven record of original contribution in AI safety research or closely related areas.
• Deep understanding of advanced AI model behaviors and elicitation techniques.
• Capability to independently formulate research plans and see them through to dissemination.
• Excellent technical writing skills.
• Experience collaborating with engineering teams to translate research into operational practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD degree or equivalent independent research credentials.
• Published research focusing on dangerous AI capabilities or alignment assessment.
• Knowledge of frontier lab safety documentation and regulatory environments including the EU AI Act and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
• Proficiency in Mandarin reading and writing.

Additional Information

• This is a full-time position based in Singapore or available remotely.
