Role Overview
We invite applications for a proactive Ranger who is community-minded to join our department. This diverse and satisfying role involves protecting and enhancing community safety, welfare, and amenity by enforcing applicable legislation, local laws, and compliance requirements. Key responsibilities span animal management, fire prevention, vehicle regulation, camping oversight, and educational outreach. You will balance independent duties with team collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine patrols and investigate complaints regarding animal control, local law adherence, litter, unauthorized off-road vehicle use, and camping regulations.
- Implement legislative enforcement through education initiatives, issuing warnings, administering fines, gathering evidence, and initiating prosecutions as required.
- Oversee operations at the City’s dog and cat pound, ensuring animal welfare, conducting assessments and registrations, managing impoundment, and facilitating pet rehoming.
- Carry out property inspections and firebreak compliance evaluations, and act as a Bush Fire Control Officer when assigned.
- Engage with residents, visitors, community organizations, contractors, legal entities, and internal teams to address compliance issues and offer guidance.
Candidate Profile
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant policies, procedures, regulations, or legislation and quickly assimilate new directives.
- Demonstrated strong analytical, investigative, report-writing, and decision-making capabilities with practical judgment.
- Outstanding communication and customer service aptitude, with confidence in managing challenging discussions fairly and professionally.
- Self-motivated with effective prioritization skills and the ability to maintain precise documentation.
- Valid C Class Driver’s Licence is essential. Prior experience as a Ranger is advantageous but not mandatory; candidates possessing relevant transferable skills and eagerness to learn are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services).
- Certification as a Fire Control Officer.
- Training in Firearms Handling and Safety.
- Dog Handling and Equipment Operation training.
- Skill set in Microchip Implantation for dogs and cats.
- Previous employment in local government Ranger roles is favored.
