Quantity Surveyor

Position Overview

TasNetworks is looking to appoint two skilled Quantity Surveyors to play a critical role in executing the North West Transmission Developments (NWTD), a major infrastructure initiative in Tasmania. These roles focus on protecting the organization's commercial interests through precise measurement, valuation, forecasting, and contract management within a substantial state infrastructure project.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing detailed cost forecasts, cash flow predictions, and estimates for project completion costs.
• Manage daily contract administration adhering strictly to contract terms and project protocols.
• Provide early identification and advice on cost-related risks, trends, and opportunities to the Contract Director.
• Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date contract and change registers.
• Generate thorough and compliant contractual communications including notices, instructions, and variations.
• Measure and value contract change items accurately, ensuring compliance with contract conditions.
• Support the evaluation of progress claims related to changes in conjunction with team members.
• Track and monitor modifications, provisional sums, delay-related expenses, and contingency usage.
• Offer internal guidance on interim assessments for monthly payment claims reporting.
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with contractors, external parties, and internal teams.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant is a detail-oriented commercial expert comfortable working on large-scale projects, skilled in disciplined measurement, valuation, and contract administration to foster strong commercial results.

Qualifications and Experience

• A university degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or related fields.
• Proven track record working as a Quantity Surveyor on significant infrastructure or construction projects.
• Expertise in cost control, measurement, and valuation, with an emphasis on dealing with variations and change order items.
• Familiarity with document management systems, financial software, or project cost monitoring tools.
• Membership or progress towards membership in professional organizations such as RICS or AIQS.
• Strong numerical skills, analytical capabilities, and meticulous attention to correctness.
• Well-grounded knowledge of contract interpretation and commercial management best practices.
• Ability to read and correctly interpret technical drawings and specifications for measurement purposes.
• Clear communication skills with proficiency in verbal and written exchanges, and effective stakeholder coordination.
• Good commercial insight and proactive identification of contractual and cost risks.
