Job description
Role Overview
We seek a seasoned Public Policy Manager to lead our public policy initiatives throughout Portuguese-speaking Africa. This position plays a pivotal role in designing and implementing policy strategies that align with and support the company's expansion in the region. The successful candidate will excel at strategic thinking, possess extensive knowledge of francophone Africa's regulatory environments, and demonstrate leadership in engaging with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams to achieve tangible results.
Key Responsibilities
- Craft and implement a robust public policy plan that anticipates regulatory changes and aligns with business goals across the region.
- Establish and nurture trusted partnerships with government entities, regulatory bodies, and industry groups to foster positive regulatory conditions and reduce risks.
- Track and analyze political, regulatory, and legislative shifts in francophone Africa, providing clear, strategic insights and recommendations to senior leadership on potential threats and opportunities.
- Collaborate closely with internal departments such as Legal, Public Relations, Operations, and Marketing to ensure public policy efforts align with overall company strategies and coordinate implementation with external regional partners.
- Act as the company's representative in discussions with government officials, sector organizations, and multi-stakeholder forums, building coalitions that promote equitable regulatory frameworks for digital platforms and mobility services.
- Prepare thorough stakeholder briefings and regular regulatory updates relevant to the company's operations in the region.
- Guide government relations during regulatory challenges or policy crises to enable prompt and efficient resolutions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, International Relations, or a related discipline.
- Between five and eight years of experience in government relations, public policy, or regulatory affairs.
- Professional fluency in Portuguese and English languages.
- Proven analytical capability to simplify complex regulatory topics into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Willingness to undertake regional travel periodically.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience in technology, telecommunications, consulting, or FMCG sectors.
- Multi-country professional exposure within francophone African markets.
