Role overview

Environment Funders Canada is hiring a Program Coordinator to support environmental philanthropy programming and organizational coordination. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role sits within a small core team and works closely with the Program Manager, Operations Manager, Administrative & Events Assistant, Financial Manager, and Program Consultants to help deliver the organization’s strategy and day-to-day priorities.

The ideal candidate is a systems-minded, highly organized professional who can manage several initiatives at the same time, quickly learn new subject areas, and help bring people together through clear facilitation and strong project coordination.

Work location and schedule

This is a full-time contract role for 16 months, scheduled at 37.5 hours per week. The position is based in Toronto, and the person in the role must be able to work from the office at least once each week. The organization also offers the option to work from home four days a week. Flexible working hours are available, supported by daily time tracking, and some extended hours may be needed during special events.

Compensation and start date

The salary for this position is $60,000. The expected start date is September 1, 2026.

How to apply

Applicants should email a combined resume and cover letter as a single document to devika@environmentfunders.ca and lhache@environmentfunders.ca. The file should be named in the format: FIRST NAME_LAST NAME - DATE. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

Equity and inclusion

Environment Funders Canada is committed to equity, inclusion, and decolonization in all of its work. The organization welcomes applications from candidates from a wide range of backgrounds, including BIPOC individuals, people with disabilities, and people who identify as LGBTQ2S+.

Program delivery responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support current funder collaboratives so they remain strategically sound, well-run, and valuable for participants, working alongside the Program Manager and two part-time Program Consultants.
  • Help manage the organization-wide work required for the annual conference, including communications, field trips, venue and transportation arrangements, registration tracking, supply shipping, catering, website updates, sponsor benefits, budgets, AV coordination, run-of-show planning, and speaker information collection.
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of virtual learning and collaboration offerings such as funder interest groups, ad hoc discussions, webinars, and expert briefings.
  • Support regional funder gatherings held two to three times per year, helping members learn together, network, and strengthen relationships.
  • Coordinate targeted thought leadership research projects, including landscape analyses and technical reports, when assigned.

Program management responsibilities

  • Prepare and circulate materials for meetings, workshops, and conferences in a timely and organized manner.
  • Gather and summarize member feedback to help refine and strengthen program initiatives when needed.
  • Suggest new program ideas or improvements that could expand or enhance offerings.
  • Support the Board Program Committee by drafting agendas, assembling meeting packages, and leading selected discussion items.

Qualifications and experience

We are looking for someone with at least three years of experience in the environmental or philanthropic sector, along with solid project management experience in nonprofit, philanthropic, and/or membership-based settings. The role also calls for excellent written communication, proven leadership in program design and delivery, event management experience, and strong comfort with digital tools and collaboration platforms.

Preferred experience includes direct exposure to environmental work and a good understanding of environmental issues, challenges, and solutions in Canada. Fluency in both English and French is considered an asset.

What makes someone successful here

The organization is looking for a self-aware, mature, energetic team player who pays close attention to detail, adapts easily to new processes, and can proactively identify what they need in order to deliver. The right candidate will think strategically, synthesize input from multiple sources, communicate complex information clearly, create a collaborative environment, and navigate disagreements constructively while maintaining trust, integrity, and openness.

Team culture

Environment Funders Canada describes itself as a small but high-performing team serving a broad network of members and partners. The workplace is friendly and casual, with a strong emphasis on quality, accountability, communication, mutual support, flexibility, and respecting personal boundaries. Team members value in-person time, work well through feedback, and maintain high standards in how they collaborate and deliver results.

Benefits and working conditions

  • Comprehensive benefits coverage begins after three months.
  • Employees receive four weeks of vacation plus three office-closure days during the winter holiday period.
  • Annual professional development opportunities are provided.
  • Performance feedback is shared informally during weekly calls with the Executive Director and formally through an annual appraisal.
  • Travel within Canada is expected about three to four times per year.

Additional notes

The role is designed to support a dynamic and evolving program portfolio, so the scope of initiatives may change from year to year. The organization also notes that it appreciates every applicant’s interest but will only respond to candidates selected for further consideration.

Please note that applicants were asked to mention where they found the opportunity in the original posting.
