Production Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a Production Manager for a reputable manufacturing company based in Dumfries, Scotland. This leadership role involves overseeing daily production activities, ensuring that output targets, quality benchmarks, and delivery expectations are met consistently. You will lead a substantial team of 60 to 80 employees, fostering motivation, accountability, and engagement to drive operational success.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily production processes to fulfill output, quality, budget, and delivery goals.
• Develop and maintain production schedules aligning personnel, materials, and equipment.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a production workforce of approximately 60-80 staff members.
• Promote a culture of high performance through transparent communication and accountability.
• Analyze and enhance operational KPIs such as productivity, quality, downtime, waste, and labor use.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks or production challenges with corrective measures.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and performance.
• Maintain Quality Management Systems, including supporting BSI/ISO standards, document control, and audit readiness.
• Oversee material inventory to avoid shortages and minimize production interruptions.
• Collaborate with Engineering for line optimization, preventive maintenance, and equipment reliability.
• Coordinate with Transport and Customer Service to ensure timely dispatch and customer communication.
• Uphold Health & Safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment.
• Conduct regular employee performance reviews and support professional development.
• Use data analysis to guide operational decisions and sustain continuous improvement.
• Exemplify visible leadership to foster teamwork, accountability, and superior performance.

Required Skills and Experience

• Demonstrated experience in Production or Manufacturing Management roles.
• Proven capability in managing and cultivating large manufacturing teams.
• Expertise in driving operational success via KPI oversight and continuous improvement.
• Knowledge of production planning, scheduling, and resource management best practices.
• Familiarity with BSI/ISO quality frameworks, documentation protocols, and audit preparations.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing workflows and operational efficiencies.
• Experience collaborating with Engineering and Maintenance to enhance equipment uptime.
• Analytical skills to assess data and identify operational improvements.
• Strong grasp of manufacturing Health & Safety standards.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to cultivate productive relationships across Production, Engineering, Transport, and Customer Service functions.
