Product Design Engineer

Overview

Meta's hardware engineering teams lead innovation across consumer electronics, data centers, robotics, and advanced systems, crafting technologies that connect billions globally. As a Mechanical/Product Design Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, prototyping, and deploying state-of-the-art hardware. You will handle important components and subsystems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver novel hardware solutions while adhering to Meta's engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver medium-complexity mechanical assemblies or subsystems from concept to production readiness.
• Develop, test, and refine prototypes to validate design, ensure performance, and troubleshoot failures.
• Collaborate with engineering, design, manufacturing, and research teams to produce integrated solutions and provide technical guidance.
• Implement best practices for Design for Manufacturability and Assembly and support process development for mass production.
• Coordinate with external vendors and partners to source components, manage prototype fabrication, and uphold quality standards.
• Maintain thorough technical documentation and communicate progress and decisions effectively across stakeholders using data-driven insights.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum 2 years of professional experience in mechanical design, with a track record of shipping high-volume commercial products or designing sophisticated electromechanical prototypes.
• Proficiency with 3D/2D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, NX, or Creo.
• Strong understanding of material properties (plastics, metals, adhesives) and high-volume manufacturing methods (injection molding, stamping, die casting).
• Experience in experimental testing and analysis approaches, including FEA, simulation, and Design of Experiments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree (MS or PhD) in Mechanical Engineering.
• Over 2 years of product design experience focused on handheld or wearable consumer electronics, owning complex subsystems or entire systems.
• Familiarity with NX CAD software.
• Background working on cosmetically demanding products in conjunction with Industrial Design teams.
• Proficiency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese is advantageous for reviewing regional content.
• Experience incorporating human factors into design processes.
• Demonstrated application of AI tools to streamline workflows and enhance quality or efficiency.
• Knowledge and practice of ethical AI development, including risk assessment and bias reduction strategies.
• Active engagement with AI advancements, including prompt engineering and agent orchestration.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $118,000 to $170,000 annually, complemented by bonuses, equity awards, and comprehensive benefits. Actual pay is based on skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
