Role Purpose

This position is responsible for ensuring that electrical, mechanical, and fabrication materials for switchgear manufacturing are sourced in a technically sound, commercially competitive, and timely manner. The Procurement Engineer will assess vendors, negotiate commercial terms, raise and manage purchase orders, and work closely with engineering and production teams to keep materials moving and support project timelines.

Procurement and Sourcing

• Shortlist, assess, and appoint OEMs and other approved suppliers for switchgear items such as circuit breakers, contactors, relays, busbars, sheet metal, gaskets, and copper bars.
• Raise purchase requisitions and convert them into purchase orders based on project needs.
• Find new suppliers and materials that improve cost efficiency, product quality, and delivery performance.
• Work out pricing, commercial terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers to secure savings.
• Keep the approved vendor register updated and ensure supplier qualification requirements are met.

Internal Coordination

• Liaise with estimation, design, production, warehouse, and quality teams to understand technical requirements.
• Coordinate with stores and planning functions to maintain sufficient stock levels.
• Assist engineering teams with substitution of materials or alternate sourcing when needed.

Material Planning and Control

• Track delivery timelines and make sure materials are available on time for production.
• Identify and resolve issues involving material discrepancies, quality concerns, and delayed deliveries.
• Follow up on pending purchase orders and accelerate shipments whenever necessary.

Documentation and Compliance

• Prepare RFQs, purchase orders, comparison statements, and supplier performance reports.
• Verify that materials meet company quality standards and project specifications.
• Maintain procurement records in line with ISO and QA/QC procedures.

Cost Control and Supplier Development

• Study cost patterns and implement approaches to reduce procurement spend.
• Review supplier performance based on quality, cost, and delivery indicators.
• Take part in supplier audits and supplier development initiatives.

HSE Responsibilities

• Comply with all company QHSE policies, procedures, and legal obligations.
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses to the relevant supervisor or QHSE team without delay.
• Participate in required safety inductions, HSE training, safety meetings, emergency drills, and root-cause investigations.
• Follow emergency response procedures, including evacuation, fire response, and first aid where trained.
• Apply environmental protection practices, including proper waste disposal and reporting spills or leaks.
• Contribute ideas for improving quality, health, safety, and environmental practices, and take initiative toward continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

• A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent qualification is required.
• Applicants should have 3 to 6 years of procurement experience in switchgear or electrical manufacturing.
• Knowledge of LV/MV switchgear products from brands such as ABB, Hyundai, Schneider, and Siemens is expected.
