Planning Specialist

About the Role

H.G. Infra Engineering Limited is recruiting a highly skilled Planning Specialist to lead project scheduling and progress optimization across large-scale infrastructure sectors including Highways, Railways/Metro, and Transmission & Distribution. This role centralizes the coordination between engineering design, field execution timelines, and contract commercialities to enhance project delivery and financial outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, baseline, and oversee integrated Master Project Schedules (levels L1 to L4) for diverse EPC projects involving multiple transport and power sectors.
• Implement and maintain standard planning formats, progress measurement systems, and reporting mechanisms such as S-curves, resource allocations, cash flows, and critical path analysis (CPM/PERT) to proactively identify and manage risks.
• Embed design and engineering inputs into scheduling processes, maintaining alignment between design releases, procurement, and on-site construction sequences, including assessment of timing impacts due to design changes and approvals.
• Collaborate with design teams to forecast and mitigate bottlenecks that can delay site operations.
• Coordinate closely with commercial and contract departments to synchronize project milestones with billing schedules, cash flow forecasts, and price variation management.
• Quantify schedule delays and deviations, preparing robust data-supported analyses for contract claims such as Extension of Time, scope alterations, and variation orders.
• Monitor financial and performance indicators relevant to scheduling, including Earned Value Management (EVM), Cost Performance Index (CPI), and Schedule Performance Index (SPI).
• Conduct frequent progress reviews and risk evaluations with execution teams to detect and resolve productivity issues, equipment usage inefficiencies, and material shortages.
• Perform scenario analyses and delay fragmentation studies to recommend acceleration measures like crash programs or schedule fast-tracking.
• Prepare concise, impactful executive level reports and progress summaries for senior leadership assessment.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or Infrastructure Engineering from premier Tier-1 or Tier-2 institutions (IITs, NITs, BITS, or leading state colleges).
• Advanced degrees such as an MBA, PGDOM, or PGP in Industrial/Project Management from IIM Mumbai (formerly NITIE) strongly preferred.
• Certifications like PMP, PMI-SP, or Primavera P6 are advantageous.
• A minimum of 10 to 15 years practical experience in planning and project controls within Indian EPC and infrastructure sectors.
• Demonstrable expertise in at least two infrastructure domains among Highways (NHAI/HAM/EPC), Railways/Metro, and Transmission & Distribution sectors.
• Proficiency in deploying advanced planning software on significant scale infrastructure projects.

Technical and Commercial Skills

• Advanced skills in Primavera P6, MS Project, TILOS (specific to linear infrastructure), and capability in Excel and Power BI for dashboard creation and progress visualization.
• Comprehensive understanding of FIDIC and EPC contract frameworks, delay analysis techniques including Impacted As-Planned and Time Impact Analysis models, alongside cost control strategies.
• Competence in reviewing engineering drawings for structural, alignment, and construction sequencing considerations to inform planning decisions.

Leadership and Interpersonal Skills

• Strategic thinker with exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders including project directors, clients, and consultants, blending technical details with executive insights.
