Position Overview

We are looking for a full-time Physiotherapist to join the Canadian Forces Health Services Centre in Edmonton. The role involves delivering comprehensive physiotherapy consultations, assessments, and treatments both via booked appointments and walk-ins in the physiotherapy section and the Care Delivery Unit (CDU) during sick parades or consultations within a collaborative practice model. You will primarily work with clients who are fit and highly motivated in their recovery process.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide physiotherapy and rehabilitation treatments based on evidence and best practices, complying with regulatory standards and scope of practice.
• Manage a full orthopedic caseload averaging 12-15 patients daily, including around 8-10 new assessments weekly and typically 2 follow-ups hourly.
• Assess and treat neuro-musculoskeletal issues, mainly stemming from sports, training, work injuries, and accidents.
• Secure and record informed patient consent through clear explanations and instructions prior to assessments and treatments.
• Conduct screening assessments, deliver education, and recommend orthoses in direct access settings such as walk-in CDU patients.
• Prescribe exercises aimed at injury rehabilitation, prevention, and fitness promotion.
• Administer manual therapy and soft tissue techniques to address muscle tension, scar tissue, circulatory and lymphatic system disorders, and neuro-musculoskeletal conditions.
• Employ pain relief methods potentially including acupuncture (needling beneath the skin).
• Provide ergonomic education and perform on-site workplace assessments for patients.
• Educate patients and healthcare team members on injury prevention and health promotion.
• Perform biomechanical foot assessments including fitting and fabrication of orthotics.
• Support development and implementation of physiotherapy clinic programs such as proprioceptive rehabilitation, reintegration, or back pain self-management as part of the healthcare team.
• Engage in ongoing patient care management through case presentations in interdisciplinary meetings, clinical rounds, patient conferences, and scheduling follow-ups.
• Complete daily clinical documentation for all patient interactions consistent with Canadian Forces and provincial regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Registered and in good standing with the Alberta physiotherapy licensing authority.
• Minimum three years of orthopedic or sports medicine physiotherapy experience.
• Certification in Manual Therapy Level 2, or McKenzie Part B, or Acupuncture such as AFCI or Dry Needling Certification.
• Possess valid Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support certification (or equivalent like CPA/AED Level C).

Additional Requirements

• Eligibility to obtain Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level.
