About the Role
The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) is seeking dedicated individuals to join as Operational Officers Level 2 within their Central Coast District Infrastructure team. This full-time position is located in Charmhaven, NSW, and plays a vital role in supporting bush fire management and emergency responses across the district. The RFS Operational Officer Program fosters a mobile, flexible workforce aimed at enhancing community protection from fires and other emergencies through comprehensive support of district and regional activities.
As part of your duties, you will primarily focus on vehicle and fleet coordination, collaborating closely with volunteers, council workshops, contractors, fleet mechanics, and other team members. Your efforts will ensure that RFS vehicles, resources, and infrastructure are maintained, managed, and prepared for operational readiness.
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinate and support fleet and vehicle management across the district.
- Engage with council workshops, contractors, and internal teams to facilitate vehicle maintenance and repair activities.
- Assist the Fleet Mechanic by scheduling and following up on fleet-related tasks and repairs.
- Monitor and resolve vehicle and infrastructure issues promptly and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records and utilize RFS systems adhering to organizational policies.
- Communicate effectively with volunteers and brigade representatives regarding vehicle and infrastructure matters.
- Contribute to broader district efforts, including operational, administrative, and preparedness activities.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate exhibits strong decision-making abilities, excellent communication skills, and keen attention to detail. You will be adept at managing multiple priorities, maintaining accountability through systematic follow-ups, and fostering collaboration among a diverse range of stakeholders such as volunteers, councils, and contractors. A clear appreciation of the importance of dependable vehicles, equipment, and infrastructure in a volunteer-based emergency service environment is essential.
Preferred experience includes:
- Managing fleet or vehicle coordination.
- Providing support for infrastructure, facilities, or asset management.
- Working in partnership with contractors, workshops, or service providers.
- Contributing within emergency services or volunteer-led organizations.
- Handling scheduling, record-keeping, and stakeholder coordination.
- Logistical support to enhance operational readiness.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range between AUD 104,323 and AUD 115,110 annually plus 12% superannuation.
- 35-hour work week within a full-time permanent role.
