Job Overview
As a Mechanical Integration Engineer at AirQ, you will contribute to the design and integration of complex aerospace vehicle systems. This role involves collaborating on conceptual design studies, performing system-level trade-off analyses, and ensuring cohesive integration across mechanical, avionics, propulsion, and payload subsystems to create a manufacturable and serviceable vehicle.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in initial design studies to influence overall system architecture and evaluate various trade-offs.
- Integrate components such as airframe, propulsion, avionics, payloads, and launch/recovery systems into a unified vehicle design.
- Establish mounting interfaces ensuring mechanical and avionics system compatibility.
- Manage space allocation, cable routing, and accessibility planning to ease maintenance and service tasks during the UAV lifecycle.
- Proactively identify risks in integration during early design stages and work collaboratively with subsystem teams to resolve them.
- Provide hands-on support during prototype assembly, addressing fit and form issues promptly on the vehicle.
- Create manufacturing-ready detailed part and assembly drawings adhering to engineering standards.
- Work with manufacturing and supply chain departments to ensure design feasibility, cost efficiency, and producibility.
- Develop validation and testing protocols to confirm integrated assemblies comply with design requirements.
- Assist in physical testing, documenting observations and analyzing compliance with acceptance criteria.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations to support design reviews and project milestones.
Qualifications and Experience
- 0 to 3 years of experience in mechanical design, systems integration, or product development roles.
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical, Industrial, Aerospace, Mechatronics Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams managing competing priorities effectively.
- Exposure to aerospace, automotive, or complex electromechanical product development is advantageous.
- Strong skills with SolidWorks including 3D modelling, assembly configurations, and technical drawings.
- Proficiency in producing 2D manufacturing drawings per standards such as GD&T and ASME/ISO.
- Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems is a benefit.
- Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, material properties, and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of composite material fabrication techniques including layup, bonding, and co-curing.
- Experience with additive manufacturing technologies for prototyping or production parts.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) methodologies.
- Basic experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools like SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS for structural assessments.
- Awareness of aerospace certification and qualification standards.
Personal Attributes
- Curiosity-driven mindset with enthusiasm for understanding complex system integrations.
- Strong ownership of tasks, ensuring issues are fully resolved.
- Highly organized and meticulous in documentation.
- Adept at working in dynamic environments where requirements may evolve.
