Role Overview
The Materials Manager at Stio® is responsible for sourcing, developing, testing, and selecting materials and trims that align with product design, performance, quality, and cost goals across the brand's product range. This role manages seasonal materials timelines, planning, and vendor relationships while supporting product development and delivery through accurate material data management.
Key Duties and Accountabilities
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive library of high-performance materials and trims that reinforce Stio's brand identity and product differentiation.
- Source both seasonal and carryover fabrics and trims that comply with design intentions, technical specifications, and cost objectives; oversee print developments including greige commitments, strike-off handling, and lab dip approvals.
- Collaborate with mills and suppliers to innovate and develop new materials and constructions, maintaining strategic supplier relationships focused on forecasting, costing, and timeline adherence.
- Manage the entire seasonal materials timeline from fabric selection through production readiness, ensuring BOM accuracy, coordinating prototype yardage, and updating VCMs in the PLM system.
- Maintain and audit Centric PLM material records with precise data to support product information management, wholesale spreadsheets, and direct-to-consumer channels.
- Oversee material costing, staging, mill liability compilation, and sample yardage logistics to development factories.
- Verify material test reports, manage transaction certificates, and assist with preferred material certification audits like RDS, RWS, GRS, and GOTS in partnership with sustainability leaders.
- Support accuracy reviews of wholesale materials information each season.
- Engage in production operations discussions, including BOM validations, labeling decisions, and production milestones.
- Educate cross-functional teams about the features and benefits of materials and contribute to seasonal storytelling at key meetings.
- Assist with auxiliary product lines and maintain connection to the full seasonal product assortment.
- Comply with the annual product development budget while contributing to revenue, margin, and EBITDA goals.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or ongoing studies in Textile Science, Apparel Design, Product Development, or related fields.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in materials development and testing within apparel or related industries.
- Strong technical knowledge of fabric performance attributes across wovens, knits, down, and synthetic insulations.
- Proven history of material commercialization with dependable, on-schedule delivery.
- Experience working with product lifecycle management (PLM) software, preferably Centric, and maintaining data integrity standards.
- Excellent communication skills across multiple levels and strong collaboration with cross-functional teams in product development.
