About the Company and Role
Our client is a rapidly expanding engineering firm specializing in machining and heat treatment processes. They are seeking a skilled Manual Turner to join their operation and produce precision engineering components.
Job Responsibilities
- Set up and safely operate manual centre lathes and other turning equipment.
- Manufacture components to precise tolerances based on engineering schematics and customer requirements.
- Perform in-process quality checks using precision tools such as micrometers, verniers, and bore gauges.
- Ensure that finished work complies with company and client quality standards.
- Accurately interpret engineering drawings, including the application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Conduct routine maintenance of machinery to maintain operational standards.
- Keep the workspace tidy and compliant with 5S methodology and Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations.
- Collaborate effectively within a small machining team to meet production goals.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience as a Manual Turner or Manual Machinist in precision engineering.
- Strong skills in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with CAD systems such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD is preferred.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, verniers, and bore gauges.
- Good knowledge of machining methods, materials, and tooling applications.
- Ability to consistently machine to tight tolerances and uphold high-quality standards.
- Experience handling both one-off items and small batch production.
Additional Information and Benefits
- 20 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.
- Participation in a contractual profit-sharing scheme.
- 40-hour workweek with early finish on Fridays (Monday to Thursday 6:30am–3:30pm; Friday until 12:30pm).
- Competitive hourly pay ranging from £14.50 to £21, depending on experience.
