Role Overview
The Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis plays a crucial role in driving informed, fact-based decision-making by integrating risk management with business strategies. This position directly supports business line profitability and efficiency through detailed financial and risk analysis, delivering actionable insights and supporting board and executive reporting requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead financial analysis and generate regular and ad hoc reports for corporate and business units’ financial performance.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate results and processes against established risk frameworks.
- Support revenue growth by providing timely and relevant information, enabling management to understand, manage, and optimize market and operational risks.
- Develop key portfolio and profitability metrics with exposure analysis to risks, underpinning business decisions with robust data-driven recommendations.
- Collect, consolidate, and analyze financial data from multiple sources to address special reporting needs.
- Deliver detailed business unit portfolio, efficiency, KPI, and continuity reports comparing actual results to budgets.
- Support senior and executive management through ad hoc financial and strategic analyses.
- Collaborate across the Accounting and Finance departments and other business units as needed.
- Drive strategic financial initiatives and assist in implementing tactics aligned with corporate strategies.
- Provide objective, unbiased financial opinions relating to Front Office decisions.
Financial Modeling Duties
- Coordinate with business unit management for assumptions that feed into dynamic financial models.
- Develop and maintain models analyzing business lines, projects, and products, including annual budgets, monthly forecasts, net interest margins (NIM), return on equity (ROE), and pricing studies.
- Review model outputs for accuracy and relevance.
- Ensure precise data extraction and interpretation from diverse information sources.
- Guide and review the work of analytics team members, including training and troubleshooting.
Process Improvement and Risk Management
- Evaluate and suggest enhancements to budgeting and forecasting processes and tools.
- Implement refinements that improve technical accuracy, validation, and organization of financial analysis.
- Establish and document optimized processes to increase efficiency and risk control.
- Report on and analyze operational risks associated with products, activities, systems, and processes under accountability.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business.
- CFA or CPA designation completed or currently in progress.
- At least seven years of progressive experience in relevant financial roles.
- Minimum of three years managing teams with responsibility for reviewing and overseeing junior staff work.
- Strong knowledge of financial products, services, and internal control/operational risk frameworks.
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office applications, especially Excel functions such as Pivot Tables, complex IF statements, VLOOKUP, OFFSET, SUMIFS, and MATCH-INDEX.
- Deep understanding of balance sheet risk management concepts and financial modeling.
- Experience leveraging technology for data collection and manipulation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities with acute attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Effective communication and leadership skills, capable of handling multiple priorities and thriving both independently and in teams.
