Role overview

An opportunity is available to join the Macmillan Psycho-oncology team at London North West Healthcare NHS Trust. The role will be based alongside the Macmillan Consultant Psychologist and Senior Psychologists, supporting both service delivery and wider team projects.

What the role involves

The position combines clinical support, administration, audit, and service development. The post holder will help with patient and staff consultation surveys, service review activities, and administrative tasks that keep the psychology service running smoothly.

There will also be responsibility for handling new referrals, including triage, gathering information, managing patient records, keeping activity logs, and maintaining databases. Working under the supervision of qualified psychologists, the post holder may also assist with direct patient care when needed.

Clinical support duties

Depending on service need, support to patients may include psychoeducation, facilitation of group work, and administration of outcome measures. The role is intended to provide meaningful experience for someone aiming for a career in clinical psychology.

Team environment

The Macmillan Psycho-oncology Service works within a stepped-care model and is closely connected with a wider multidisciplinary team made up of doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals. The post holder will contribute to clinically related administration, data collection, statistics, audit or research tasks, teaching, and other activities linked to clinical governance.

The role also sits within the wider LNWH Psychological Services Network, which brings together psychological specialists across the Trust. As part of this network, the post holder will take part in service development and support activities.

About the trust

London North West Healthcare NHS Trust delivers cancer services across Harrow, Brent, and Ealing, operating from Northwick Park, Central Middlesex, and Ealing Hospital. Its cancer provision includes surgery and chemotherapy, with specialist treatment in Head and Neck Cancer and Complex Colorectal Cancer through St Mark’s Hospital. The Trust also works closely with local and regional cancer centres for radiotherapy and other specialist services.
