Role overview
In this data center logistics role, you will support day-to-day inventory and delivery operations, including cycle audits, incoming and outgoing shipments, coordination of security escorts for external vendors, and accurate recording of inbound and outbound goods. The position is fully onsite at a Microsoft data center.
The role sits within Microsoft Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I), the team responsible for the infrastructure behind Microsoft cloud services such as Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure. CO+I emphasizes employee development through initiatives such as career rotation programs, diversity and inclusion learning, events, and professional certifications. Responsibilities
- Carry out assigned work and raise concerns promptly when workload is intense or when issues need escalation.
- Work with suppliers on warranty claims for defective vendor equipment, including handling information, packing, shipping, and receiving return-authorized devices in line with SLA requirements.
- Use established process knowledge and sound judgment to complete tasks with limited day-to-day supervision.
- Stay focused on how each ticket and inventory/asset management task affects wider operations.
- Keep inventory systems and asset repositories current, accurate, and well maintained.
- Track, stage, and control physical inventory with attention to detail.
- Support the identification, reconciliation, and reporting of inventory mismatches.
- Destroy data-bearing devices in accordance with SLAs and Microsoft policy when required.
- Inform management about stock shortages and escalate operational problems as needed.
- Follow security controls and data management requirements.
- Work in a way that reflects Microsoft’s culture and values.
Requirements
- High school diploma plus at least 1 year of industry experience in a warehouse, supply chain, IT environment, inventory management, retail, warehouse management, or a closely related area; or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Ability to work shifts outside standard business hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
- Required background screening includes Microsoft Cloud background check at hire or transfer and again every two years.
- For this role, NZ citizenship or NZ permanent residency must be verified due to legal restrictions; a valid NZ passport or NZ PR visa is needed for confirmation.
- Preferred background includes 2+ years of experience in warehouse/supply chain work in an IT setting, IT, and/or logistics, plus operating heavy-load movement equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or chassis lifts in a large organization; or equivalent experience.
