Learning Strategist

About the Role

NBCC invites applications for the position of Learning Strategist located in Saint John, New Brunswick. This role focuses on fostering an inclusive, accessible academic environment by offering tailored learning supports and accommodations to students facing learning challenges or disabilities. The goal is to help each student fully realize their potential and promote their academic success and retention.

Primary Duties

• Develop and implement customized Individual Accommodation Plans by evaluating pertinent documents such as Psychological Educational Assessments, medical records, or Personalized Learning Plans to assess student needs.
• Collaborate closely with faculty to determine suitable academic assistance strategies for student courses and programs.
• Deliver ongoing coaching, support, and practical techniques that enable students to leverage their strengths while overcoming learning obstacles.
• Guide students in creating effective study methods tailored to their unique learning preferences.
• Advocate for student rights and accommodations by educating staff and faculty about relevant Human Rights legislation.
• Incorporate assessment of learning outcomes into all programs and activities provided.
• Coordinate with external agencies to ensure comprehensive support systems are in place aligned to individual student needs.
• Plan and facilitate readiness programs, including participation in panels, webinars, and workshops in collaboration with recruitment and student services teams.
• Participate in and lead working groups focused on creating or revising policies and procedures related to Accessibility Services at NBCC.
• Work with external agencies to develop processes addressing accessibility needs for NBCC students taking external exams.
• Evaluate students with modified transcripts for eligibility under Special Admissions and coordinate seat allocations accordingly.

Required Qualifications

• A diploma or bachelor's degree in a related discipline accompanied by at least three years of recent relevant experience, or a master's degree with at least one year of comparable recent experience.
• Experience implementing evidence-based learning strategies and coaching techniques that effectively support skill enhancement in areas such as time management, organization, study skills, reading and writing proficiency, comprehension, test preparation, memorization, and note-taking.
• Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse student population.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.

Preference will be given to candidates who have specialized education or training related to learning disabilities or strategies, adult education experience, familiarity with assistive technologies, or prior involvement in post-secondary teaching or support roles. Experience in case management and collaboration with accommodation agencies is also beneficial. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered if clearly demonstrated in the application.

This position is unionized under NBUPPE - Education collective agreement terms. Successful candidates must be eligible to work in Canada and reside within a reasonable distance of one of NBCC’s campuses to allow for flexible work arrangements within provincial boundaries.

Additional Information

The salary range for this position is $66,586 to $80,470 annually (ECD Pay Group 4). This posting may be used to fill multiple future vacancies at the same level.
