Position Details

This full-time onsite role alternates between Parks operations and Roads & Traffic maintenance. For most of the year, you will work under the Parks Supervisor focusing on horticulture, grounds, and facilities upkeep, while for a portion of the year, you will support Roads & Traffic operations including road maintenance and winter control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support horticultural activities such as preparing flower beds, fertilizing, watering, and weeding.
  • Assist forestry tasks including planting, pruning, mulching, and removals.
  • Perform general maintenance of park facilities and support event setup and cleanup.
  • Carry out groundskeeping duties like seeding, sodding, leaf and debris removal.
  • Engage in winter snow and ice management operations.
  • Operate various vehicles, equipment, and tools safely and efficiently.
  • Support road maintenance activities including snow clearing, salting, flagging, signage installation, ditching, and debris pickup.
  • Contribute to tree trimming and boulevard maintenance tasks.
  • Respond courteously to public and staff inquiries, delivering excellent customer service.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Candidate Profile

We seek a motivated individual with strong communication skills who values teamwork and problem-solving while maintaining safety compliance. The ideal candidate is physically capable of strenuous labor outdoors in various weather conditions and prioritizes workplace safety for themselves and others.

Qualifications

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience in parks or grounds maintenance.
  • At least one year of experience in roads or roadway maintenance.
  • Valid Class “DZ” driver’s license in good standing.
  • Proven ability to operate vehicles over 11,000 kg GVW, including tandem axle trucks.
  • Preferred: Defensive Driving training completion.
  • Demonstrated adherence to occupational health and safety standards.
  • Ability to safely operate various maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Physical fitness to lift up to 50 lbs and perform demanding manual labor outdoors.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.

Compensation and Work Schedule

The salary range is between $29.30 and $36.66 per hour. The position functions on a flexible 40-hour workweek schedule with shifts varying throughout the day and night, including weekends. Parks-related duties mainly occur from April to November with broader shift hours, while Roads operations involve 24-hour scheduling flexibility from December to March.
